As this is exclusively a marine predator, it is not possible to catch it during fishing tours in the Putorana Plateau. However, many fishermen and homemakers are interested in this species. It can be seen in the shops, where you can buy and prepare many delicious and healthy dishes from it.
The beautiful marine predator somewhat resembles a perch and a lenok.
Appearance and features of the predator
There is a resemblance between the predatory fish and the inhabitants of Siberian waters, which is expressed by the fact that the second name of the predatory species is "sea lenok." Externally, the predator looks as follows:
· The body is slender and elongated.
· The scales are dense and small.
· On the large head, there are prominent eyes and large lips.
· The entire back is occupied by a fin, which can be divided into two halves or be solid.
· The fins of this predator are similar to a skirt. They are high and lush.
· A distinctive feature of the tolera is the lateral line, designed to perceive the surrounding world. It serves as an organ of sense and is located on both sides of the fish from the gills to the tail fin.
· The average weight of the predators is one and a half to two kilograms, but giants can also be found, weighing up to 60 kg.
· The average length of ordinary toleras is 50 cm, while giants can grow up to 1.5 m.
Due to the stripes or spots on their bodies, toleras are also referred to as sea perch, in addition to lenoks. The meat of these predatory fishes is famous for its excellent taste. It is fatty and healthy. It contains a significant amount of vitamins, amino acids, fats, and minerals. To catch toleras, sporting tours are organized among fishermen, and they are caught for industrial-scale sales.
Some male individuals also have bright patterned spots. Many appreciate it for its excellent taste and fatty meat. Therefore, the tolera is of interest both for commercial fishing and as an object of sports competitions, as well as for fishing enthusiasts.
Varieties
The tolera has many species. There are even subfamilies, with 3 genera. The varieties of the predators are as follows:
· Browsed;
· Single-lined;
· American;
· Red or Rabbit-headed;
· Brown;
· Japanese;
· Spotted;
· Toothsome.
How to catch a tolera?
Catching these predators occurs over a vast territory, starting from Kamchatka and reaching the southern Kuril Islands of Kunashir and Iturup. The advantage of fishing is that you can catch tolera not only from a boat but also wading.
Silicone lures and reliable rods are used to catch these predators. It is better to take edible silicone lures because they emit a scent that attracts the fish. On strong currents, fishermen use jig heads weighing 15-30 g.
When hunting for large toleras, it is better to equip the rod with pilkers, vibrotails, and twisters. The opportunity to find this bloodthirsty species exists where smelts are abundant.
As an epilogue
The tolera fish represents immense interest for fishermen. Almost everyone participating in sports fishing strives to catch the largest predator. This species has high gastronomic value.
The most popular dish prepared right on the shore is smoked tolera. Its taste will remain in memory for a long time. Visiting fishermen who have tried it at least once will definitely buy it in the store and prepare this dish again later.
